India Amritsar is the first port of call en route into India from Pakistan. Just a short hop from the border song and dance (and Pythonesque funny walks) at Wagah.
The main drawcard here is the Golden Temple of the Sikhs', where you can stay for "free" (a donation is more or less compulsory, but hey, it's still cheap).
