Jordan Transit point for Egypt and Israel, Aqaba is a somewhat popular destination for locals but not for foreigners; the Egyptian side of the Gulf of Aqaba is more pleasant. If you do feel like hanging around on the beach, head to the south beach area, about 10km south of Aqaba proper.
