Syria A convenient spot from which to visit Ugarit and Qala'at Salahdin, but if you're looking for a beach holiday you may be in the wrong country. There are plenty of places to get western coffee, however, so buffer your caffeine levels here. It's also interesting due to the large Christian population, so there's less of the hijab on show here; although, many Syrian women seem to take things too far in the opposite direction!
