Mount Somers

Region:
New Zealand

Southern Alps, New Zealand. Mount Somers is a reasonably easy hike, if you avoid heading up to the summit, with two well equipped huts in which to stay. The track features a range of terrian, perhaps 40, in native bush and 60, up above the treeline in scrub. Beautiful views of the (somewhat bleak, but beautiful) Canterbury high country are well worth it, with the most impressive from the summit itself, if you can push yourself up that far!
