Takht-e Soleiman

Region:
Iran

Takht-e Soleiman (The Throne of Solomon) is the most significant Zoroastrian site in Iran, historically speaking anyway. It's beautifully situated amidst the mountains, around an almost perfectly round volcanic lake. The nearby peak of Zanedan-e Soleiman (Solomon's Prison) provides great views as well as a small dose of adrenaline as you peer inside its hollow shell.

There's nowhere to stay out here, unless you wrangle a local stay from somebody. We chartered a taxi from Takab, 60,000IR return, with waiting time, visiting the Prison and Throne. Well worth the money.
