Veliko Tarnovo is the old capital of Bulgaria and is a beautiful town nestled around a river which runs in in ways unnatural to man; see the google maps location for this place, satellite photo.

The hostel we stayed at, Nomad's Hostel, is brilliant. The hosts are friendly and knowledgeable; Fedyo will happily talk your ear off on any topic related to Bulgarian history given half a chance, but he knows a lot and it's well worth listening. The view and location is great as well, close to the old town and looking over the river.
