Places of Interest in Ayuthaya
Ayuthaya
One of the former capitals of Thailand, the main island of Ayuthaya seems to have more temples per square meter then anywhere else I've been... The main complexes loom large over the city, and can be easily spotted from any high point, while other smaller remains are scattered throughout the city, surprising the casual wanderer at almost every turn.
Places of Interest
Ayuthaya Bus Station
elyobo — Tue, 13/01/2009 - 9:33pm
Location:AyuthayaAyuthaya has more of a bus street, than a bus station. The lower part of Thanon Naresuan Soi 1 has busses and songteaw running through it all the time, flag down something that looks likely.
Ayuthaya Day Market
elyobo — Tue, 13/01/2009 - 9:37pm
Location:AyuthayaNot of much interest to tourists, this market seems to sell primarily wholesale food. Rambutans and strawberries were available, however, despite being out of season elsewhere (Jan 2009).
Ayuthaya Train Station
elyobo — Tue, 13/01/2009 - 9:34pm
Location:AyuthayaAyuthaya's train station is off the main island; catch a 4 baht ferry, down the road directly opposite the train station, or walk down to the bridge to get across.
Hua Raw Night Market
elyobo — Tue, 13/01/2009 - 9:39pm
Location:AyuthayaThe night market here provides mainly food, in a small gap between the street and the river. Prices are cheap.
Thanon Naresuan Soi 1
elyobo — Tue, 13/01/2009 - 9:26pm
Location:AyuthayaThe Ayuthaya equivalent to Khao San Road, this Soi contains a cluster of guesthouses, cafes and restaurants (many guesthouses combining all of the above functions). Room prices seem to go from 140 baht a night upwards.
