One of the former capitals of Thailand, the main island of Ayuthaya seems to have more temples per square meter then anywhere else I've been... The main complexes loom large over the city, and can be easily spotted from any high point, while other smaller remains are scattered throughout the city, surprising the casual wanderer at almost every turn.

200 baht + The SK Guesthouse is located along the banks of the Khlong (canal) running through Ayuthaya, a block away from the mini backpacker ghetto on Soi Naresuan. The owners speak some English and are extremely friendly and sociable.
