Sangkhlaburi

Up in the hills between Kanchunaburi and Myanmar is Sangkhlaburi, a quiet, relaxing spot, without too many tourists and without much to do but wander around and relax. A massive lake, formed by the formation of a damn back in the '80s provides a home for many now, with house boats and floating fishing platforms dotted all over, although most densely packed in between the Thai town of Sangkhla and the Mon village opposite, near Thailand's longest wooden bridge.

Places of Interest

  • Cheun-Jai House

    Location:
    Sangkhlaburi

A cute little spot with books, jewelery, postcards and drinks, Cheun Jai House is a nice spot to while away a sunny morning. There are various places to sit (inside, on the deck or down in the garden), shady, sunny, overlooking a green, tree filled valley. Fresh coffee and numerous varieties of tea are available.

  • Sangkhlaburi Bus Station

  • Sangklaburi - Kanchunaburi AC Minivans

    elyobo — Tue, 03/02/2009 - 1:53am

    Location:
    Sangkhlaburi

AC minivans leave hourly on the half hour throughout the day. 170 baht to Kanchunaburi, but it's about 3.5 - 4 hours, rather than the 5 that the busses will take. Be warned that it's also more nausea inducing than the public bus, which is too slow to be a serious car sickness threat.
