Places to Stay in Sangkhlaburi
Sangkhlaburi
Up in the hills between Kanchunaburi and Myanmar is Sangkhlaburi, a quiet, relaxing spot, without too many tourists and without much to do but wander around and relax. A massive lake, formed by the formation of a damn back in the '80s provides a home for many now, with house boats and floating fishing platforms dotted all over, although most densely packed in between the Thai town of Sangkhla and the Mon village opposite, near Thailand's longest wooden bridge.
Places to Stay
Birdland
elyobo — Tue, 03/02/2009 - 1:53am
Owned by an American expat, Birdland is a more backpacker oriented place than most in Sangkhlaburi. Books are available, movies are displayed nightly, bus timetables are included in the (sole) menu and prices are better than other options in the area.
Burmese Inn
elyobo — Tue, 03/02/2009 - 1:53am
Burmese Inn is one of the more backpacker oriented options in Sangkhlaburi, with plenty of backpacker information available at the reception. Tours can be organised and bikes, motorcycles etc rented. Food is tasty and cheaper than that at P Guesthouse.
P Guesthouse
elyobo — Tue, 03/02/2009 - 1:53am
P Guesthouse is rather pleasant, catering to westerns and Thais up for weekend trips. The whole place is nicely executed in a kind of stone-and-concrete style, which comes off nicely. The staff generally speak good english and room prices are acceptable - fan doubles with shared bathroom are 250 baht (no single rate) while aircon rooms with warm water are 900.
