Things to Do in Amman
Amman
While not a particularly impressive city, Amman does have a few sights worth seeing and makes a convenient base for exploring the northern areas of Jordan. It's a more pleasant place in the spring and summer months than in the middle of winter, when its pleasantly mild climate makes it a welcome escape from the heat of the neighbouring countries.
Things to Do
Amman Amphitheatre
elyobo — Sat, 14/02/2009 - 9:37pm
Location:AmmanPrice:1 JODThe amphitheatre is impressive, and reasonably well restored. Check out the museums to either side of the main stage as well, they have some interesting displays of traditional attire throughout the region.
Amman Citadel
elyobo — Sat, 14/02/2009 - 9:46pm
Location:AmmanPrice:2 JODThere's not a lot left to the ruins of the citadel, but it's worth visiting for the museum and views over the city anyway. There are certainly worse ways to pass your time than wandering around the ruins.
Amman Downtown
elyobo — Sat, 14/02/2009 - 9:51pm
Location:AmmanPrice:FreeAmman's downtown is pretty basic, but there's a good collection of juice bars, coffee shops, sweet shops (so goddamn sweet that it almost hurts, but so delicious), felafal shops and whatnot. Best explored in the early evening.
Amman Odeon
elyobo — Sat, 14/02/2009 - 9:37pm
Location:AmmanPrice:FreeNext to the Amphitheatre, the Odeon is almost like a baby brother to the more massive amphitheatre. Apparently once used for musical performances, the Odeon has been more heavily restored, but is nice to have a quick look at.
Darat al-Funun
elyobo — Sat, 14/02/2009 - 9:49pm
Location:AmmanPrice:FreeThe cafe at the gallery is pleasant, if somewhat steep on pricing (although that could depend on your waiter - we didn't see a menu). The gallery itself is small, but interesting, with a few rotating exhibition (if there's a permanent collection, we didn't find it).
