Varanasi is one of the holiest cities in India, dedicated to Shiva and located on the banks of the Ganges (aka the Ganga).

The old city is riddled with alleys, touts and hotels, so finding one should be no problem. As per usual, shaking of the touts is the problem; it came close to physical violence as we rolled in at 6am from an overnight train... If you can find it, the Ganpati is nicely located and has decent rooms at 150 per night for shared bathrooms, 250 for en suite (probably with nicer views as well).
