Places of Interest in Damascus
Damascus
The capital of Syria, with a brilliant old town and souq, Damascus is worth at least a few days of your travel time. Unfortunately accommodation costs have risen to crazy levels (if you're a budget traveller), but most other things are cheap and wandering the old city, the souq and exploring the old houses and khans within is largely free.

Aldar Restaurant
elyobo — Tue, 28/04/2009 - 6:22am
Location:DamascusPleasant enough, but be sure to clarify exactly how many of each dish you're ordering and that the prices on the menu are correct. Double check your bill as well.
Surroundings are nice, live music (not very good, unfortunately) plays, and the food is generally good.
Immigration and Passport Office
elyobo — Tue, 28/04/2009 - 6:22am
Location:DamascusFrom the signs posted, visa extensions should cost only 10 SYP. Signs in arabic mention prices up to 25 SYP, possibly for the forms you fill in, which matches our experience extending in Deir ez-Zur.
Note that extensions for 3 day transit visas are also mentioned... we'll try this out next time :D
Old City and Souq
elyobo — Tue, 28/04/2009 - 6:57am
Location:DamascusA tangled warren of covered souqs, both local and touristy, and old cobbled streets, this is an enjoyable place to wander and shop. For almost anything that you could want to buy, there will be a range of shops selling, so be sure to ask at a few places before settling on a price anywhere!
