Although there's not much to draw tourists to the town itself, Tartus is very friendly and is well located to explore many of the sites along the coast of Syria. Sit down in the old town center with a coffee and pipe and consider the nearby options - Krak de Chevaliers, Safita, Qala'at Marqab, Hosn Soleiman, Arawad and more.

Rooms are dark and musty, but they'll come down to 800 SYP with a bathroom inside. A good fallback if Hotel Raffoul isn't available.

Depsite the cigarette reek in the lounge, the rest of the place is reasonably clean, and the shower is strong with lots of hot water. 500 SYP for a double, 350 SYP for a single. Get the corner room with a big balcony and views of the church if possible - take out a table and have your breakfast there.
