Lattakia

A convenient spot from which to visit Ugarit and Qala'at Salahdin, but if you're looking for a beach holiday you may be in the wrong country. There are plenty of places to get western coffee, however, so buffer your caffeine levels here. It's also interesting due to the large Christian population, so there's less of the hijab on show here; although, many Syrian women seem to take things too far in the opposite direction!

25 SYP to get to/from town. Microbus station just behind it, train station just down the road.

There are several basic coffee shops here near the mosque. The northernmost one has friendly staff and cheap coffee and nargilehs. Pick up some sweets from nearby and enjoy a coffee while watching the foot traffic.
