A convenient spot from which to visit Ugarit and Qala'at Salahdin, but if you're looking for a beach holiday you may be in the wrong country. There are plenty of places to get western coffee, however, so buffer your caffeine levels here. It's also interesting due to the large Christian population, so there's less of the hijab on show here; although, many Syrian women seem to take things too far in the opposite direction!

Location:LattakiaPrice:150/10 SYP full/studentOne of the more impressive castles in Syria, especially the location and the incredible man made gorge, carved through solid rock. You'll need to catch a microbus most of the way here, then charter a taxi the rest of the way. The microbus is 50 SYP each, while the taxi will probably be 200 SYP one way; split with others if possible, and bargain hard.
