Places to Stay in Palmyra
Palmyra
Although popular due to the impressive ruins nearby, there's not much other than these to Palmyra. Tourism seems to have ruined this town, and legendary hospitality and friendliness of the Syrians is largely absent.
Accommodation is relatively expensive and cheap eating harder to find, so backpackers may wish to hit the ruins quickly then strike out further east to cheaper and more appealing spots like Deir ez-Zur. If you're tempted to go out for a nice meal, hold out until you get back to Damascus - a distinctly average meal in Palmyra will feed you well in some of the flashest spots in the old city of Damascus.

1200 for two people in a four bed room, no budging on the price. Definitely not worth it, although they may be more reasonable if they had double rooms available.
Palace Hotel

An acceptable place to stay, with reasonably friendly staff and TVs in the rooms. It's really only acceptable because it's in Palmyra and the other options around are even worse - it's not bad, but at 800 SYP for a poky double, where water is only available for limited hours, it's hardly great value. Note that they'll start asking at least 1000 SYP a room.
Sun Hotel

With a range of stuffy basement rooms at very high prices, this place doesn't seem to measure up to the LP review. Prices started at 1000 for double occupancy, but came down a little. The room on the roof top (bathroom outside, but very close) was much more sunny and pleasant, but still not worth the asking price.
