Karimabad

Karimabad is the "capital" of the Hunza Valley, nestled up somewhere between the Hindu Kush and Karakorum ranges. Surrounded by deep valleys, glaciers and peaks rising higher than 7000m, it's a beautiful place to stay and hike.

There are several good options in the budget range, all owned by relatives. The Old Hunza Inn, Haidar Inn and Tourist Cottages all have rooms and dorms for cheap prices, most with hot water. Meal deals are also pretty good, 70/90 per night for a full meal, veg/non-veg.

Hiking up to Ultar Meadow above Karimabad, and to Hon Pass from there is a good way to go. Demanding on the legs, but the views are great from the meadow. Apparently even better from the Pass, but it was snowing by the time I got there and we couldn't see jack.
