Places of Interest in Bushehr
Bushehr
Hot and humid down on the Persian Gulf, the lonely planet has a memorable quote from one reader describing Bushehr as resembling "Grozny after the third Russian war". While most of it isn't so exciting, wandering around the severely decayed old section of town is worth an afternoon or so, and a qalyan down on the waterfront after dark is a perfect way to enjoy the evening.
We stayed in the Moserfakhuneh Pars, after getting the appropriate police clearance. Stupid police. Meh. Anyway, it was just a matter of walking down and waiting around 15 minutes or so. The rooms were decent triples at 80,000, in a good location. The non-english speaking staff were friendly, and generous with their tea as well :)
Avoid the Hotel Sadi; while it gets a good writeup in the 2004 LP, at 30,000 a room, they tried to go for 300,000 from us. We left amidst gales of laughter. I don't know, maybe they've done a lot of renovation or something, but I'm not interested in heaven itself at that price.
