Places of Interest in Tabriz
Tabriz
For most people making an overland trip to Iran, Tabriz is the first major town they hit. It's not "Persian" Iran, as the locals are mainly Azari, closer to the Turks than the Persians. The welcome is just as friendly as you'd expect, however, and it's a great introduction to the country.
Places of Interest
Dairy Restaurant
elyobo — Sat, 23/05/2009 - 12:36am
Location:TabrizThe tastiest breakfast in Iran, in my opinion, is simply yoghurt, honey and fresh bread. This place puts them together and charges around 10,000 IRR for the pleasure, although pricing is slightly random.
Exchange
elyobo — Sat, 23/05/2009 - 12:37am
Location:TabrizYou can change cash here, just on the edge of the bazaar, although the rates aren't the best. We got taken down here by Mansour Khan of the information centre, and he may have made a small cut on the deal as the rate was about 1% less than we were told it should be by locals.
Main Bus Station
elyobo — Sat, 23/05/2009 - 12:39am
Location:TabrizA fair way out of town, but if you book at the Seiro Safar company they'll take you out here from their office, which can be reached by bus number 110 (going to Valiasr).
Tourist Information
elyobo — Sat, 23/05/2009 - 12:40am
Location:TabrizFriendly and informative staff here, speaking a range of languages. Good advice, good visitors book, good location. Ask them to show you to the dairy restaurant (if you can't find it yourself), to the tea house for a qalyan or to an exchange office (although check the rates first). Get a quick farsi lesson too!
Valiasr District
elyobo — Sat, 23/05/2009 - 12:43am
Location:TabrizThe upmarket region of Tabriz, come out here to drink decent coffee and see a different slice of the Tabrizi life. The cheapest way to get here is on bus 110 from the middle of town, but a taxi should cost no more than 20,000 IRR.
