Places to Stay in Tabriz
Tabriz
For most people making an overland trip to Iran, Tabriz is the first major town they hit. It's not "Persian" Iran, as the locals are mainly Azari, closer to the Turks than the Persians. The welcome is just as friendly as you'd expect, however, and it's a great introduction to the country.

Barg Guesthouse

Clean, with decent sized rooms and friendly service. Showers cost an extra 10,000 Rial, which is savage, but bargain some free ones into the room price and it's not so bad. They have a washing machine and will do a load or two for 20,000 Rial, which is decent value.
Mashad Hotel

Basic, but passable, rooms. Too hot in summer. Staff not particularly friendly and toilets very smelly. Showers and extra 13,000 Rial, basically robbery. Food available - dizi for 20,000.
