Things to Do in Tabriz
Tabriz
For most people making an overland trip to Iran, Tabriz is the first major town they hit. It's not "Persian" Iran, as the locals are mainly Azari, closer to the Turks than the Persians. The welcome is just as friendly as you'd expect, however, and it's a great introduction to the country.
Things to Do
Azerbaijan Museum
elyobo — Sat, 23/05/2009 - 12:43am
Location:TabrizPrice:5000 IRRA small but interesting display on the first floor contains relics from the region over the last few thousand years. A less historical, but more interesting, exhibition in the basement floor has a series of pieces by a local sculptor. Worth checking out. Just next door to the Blue Mosque, so combine the visits.
Blue Mosque
elyobo — Sat, 23/05/2009 - 12:34am
Location:TabrizPrice:3000 IRRThe Blue Mosque was destroyed completely in an earthquake a long time back, and reconstruction was slow to start and has still not been completed. Progress is being made, however, with far more internal tiling complete than was evident a couple of years back. It'll be a long time before it reaches its former glory, but it's still worth checking out at 3000 IRR a ticket.
El Goli Park
elyobo — Sat, 23/05/2009 - 12:42am
Location:TabrizPrice:FreeIt's wildly popular with Tabrizis, although the main appeal to me was just checking out all the people. Come down on a Thursday or Friday night for best people watching.
Tabriz Bazaar
elyobo — Sat, 23/05/2009 - 12:30am
Location:TabrizPrice:FreeA large and confusing tangle of vaulted brick halls, the bazaar is worth a few hours of your time wandering around losing yourself. Apparently it's one of the biggest in Iran, so bring your best walking shoes, you'll be footsore by the end.
