Places of Interest in Tehran
Tehran
Capital of Iran, and capital of mad driving internationally I strongly suspect. Makes me glad to be a non-driver, although pedestrians are hardly safe either. I'm pretty sure that the high road toll here is largely related to pedestrian obliviousness.
There's not a lot of real interest here, and the costs and pollution are worse than anywhere else, so don't hang around longer than necessary.
Places of Interest
Aybeta Coffee
elyobo — Sat, 23/05/2009 - 10:41pm
Location:TehranCoffee is a hard creature to find anywhere in Iran, and finding it cheap and in non-instant form is harder still. This place can hook you up with the raw beans or make you a fresh espresso, cappuchino and what have you. It's not quite the real deal, as it's straight from a machine, but the raw materials are right and the end product is almost bang on.
Azhentina Bus Station (Tehran)
elyobo — Tue, 19/05/2009 - 9:05pm
Location:TehranThe most central bus station in Iran is theoretically close to the Mosalla metro line, but is actually separated by an apparently uncrossable motorway... A taxi all the way to Imam Khomeini Square cost us 50,000 IRR while sleep deprived in the early morning, so you can probably get it cheaper.
Cafe 78
elyobo — Sat, 23/05/2009 - 11:05pm
Location:TehranJust like a cafe back home, except the coffee is more expensive than any NZ cafe I know of. The food is quite good and cheap by international standards, and there's free wireless as well. Just beware the 20% service tax which isn't mentioned anywhere in the menu!
Imam Khomeini Square
elyobo — Sat, 23/05/2009 - 10:41pm
Location:TehranNot exactly an attraction in and of itself, the station here is the main interchange of the Tehrani Metro system and also the nearest station to the budget hotels out Amir Kabir street. There are a few cheap juice, sandwhich and kebab places around the square or just off it as well.
Southern Bus Station (Terminal-e Jonub)
elyobo — Sat, 23/05/2009 - 10:44pm
Location:TehranThe southern bus station is Tehran's second biggest and is conveniently reached by the metro, stopping at the Terminal-e Jonub station (appropriately enough). Busses leave to southern and south-eastern destinations, including Esfahan and Yazd.
