Places to Stay in Tehran
Tehran
Capital of Iran, and capital of mad driving internationally I strongly suspect. Makes me glad to be a non-driver, although pedestrians are hardly safe either. I'm pretty sure that the high road toll here is largely related to pedestrian obliviousness.
There's not a lot of real interest here, and the costs and pollution are worse than anywhere else, so don't hang around longer than necessary.

It's got a good writeup from the LP, and the manager mentioned does seem pleasant, but the massive price jump following the good LP review seems a little suspicious...
At 300,000 for a double without bathroom it sounds like poor value to us. As a net cafe, tolerable wireless at 10,000 an hour is decent value in Tehran.
Mashhad Hotel

A basic budget option in Tehran, it's decent value given the rapidly rising prices here. Try to get a room back off the street, as the noise from Amir Kabir Street could wake the dead.
Book exchange and internet are available.

A reasonably cheap option, by Tehrani standards, it seems to be involved with the Mashad Hotel somehow, as the owner their is always hanging around. 100,000 gets you a double with shared bathroom and 150,000 gets you your own bathroom and shower.
