Belgrade, capital of the newly-separated-from-Montenegro Serbia. Google maps hasn't updated yet, but they are indeed two countries now.

The town itself isn't so exciting, but it's fun to wander around. The first place I've been where the majority of the signs use cyrillic letters, which makes navigation difficult. I don't know what Lonely Planet was thinking, but they've labelled the street names in their map with Latin characters, which doesn't help at all when the street signs are cyrillic!

As far as places to stay go, check out the Three Black Cats hostel. It's tiny, two rooms and one bathroom, but the atmosphere is great and the staff are friendly. Location is sweet as well. Finding it can be a hassle, so follow the instructions carefully; you probably want to book online on hostelworld.com or something like that.
