Goddamn Visas

First up - there are a pile new new photos added to Aswan and to Luxor. If you don't want to read my moaning about visas and sickness then you can probably just jump straight there and check them out.

Visas? Goddamn Syrian visas, specifically. And, in a minor way, Jordanian ones (or perhaps the guys that sell them). You can't get Syrian visas outside of your own country (this presents a problem when I haven't been in NZ for more than a year, and when NZ doesn't have a Syrian embassy anyway). And the punk in the Jordanian embassy charged us vastly more than the visa should cost, it probably would be cheaper just to rock up and demand the visa on arrival each time. Meh.

Good to get that out of the system anyway. We'll just rock up to the border and ask that the Syrians let us in, as the embassy suggested. An English friend of ours said that they yelled at him, then threw his passport at them... but then they did let him in... Hmmm.

So, we're back in Cairo, picking up visas and extending our Egyptian one. We've got a few more days on the current one, but we're heading out to Alexandria and then into the desert somewhere, so we'll extend now while it's still possible. Alexandria doesn't sound like the hottest of destinations, but apparently they know how to make a western style coffee there, so that's something at least. And apparently they have a good library - coffee + books by the Med could be a winning combination, who knows? You will, soon, as your intrepid reporter investigates on your behalf. The things I do for you all.

We've spent most of the last two weeks down in Luxor, half the time doing things and half the time just hanging out (or, in my case, being sick). There is, of course, a stupidly large amount of stuff to see and do there. Tombs and temples make up the most of it, and after a few days you hit the limit. There are quite a few that we haven't seen, but there's only so much that you can take really.

Until next time...
