Lunar Landscape

Ephesus was great, photos up where you'd expect to find them. Thankfully we got there early and dodged the tour busses, but they were coming through in droves by the time we left. The best thing about winter travel is the general lack of other tourists, especially here where, by all accounts, it's just insane in summer. I don't mind them (other tourists), but still, peacefulness is good.
So from Selcuk I headed to Pamukkale for a quick peak at the ruins of Heirapolis and the white terraces they have here. Terraces, ok, but apparently much better back in the 70s; nowadays, not so flash. Ruins, great. Possibly better than Ephesus, not better preserved, it just had a better feeling to the place. I climbed up the hills and everywhere I looked I could see stones. And every one of those stones had been a part of the city once, it was great. I could imagine the city here better than I could in Ephesus.
Onwards east I pressed, enduring my least favoured form of transport; the overnight bus trip. I just can't sleep well on the damn things, I'm whacked for a day after even if I nap a bit once I arrive... So did little today after my arrival in Goreme. This place is mad though, houses build in caves, caves dug in huge stone pillars, valleys, mountains. There'll be photos aplenty in 24 hours or so, check back then for updates.
I'd also like to congratulate my mother, who, against any kind of sane impulse, has decided to travel with me through Iran and Pakistan (assuming that we can both pull together all the relevant visas). How many mothers would be cool enough (or crazy enough) to do that? Nice one Mum!
