Songkran Madness

Well, I've shifted location by another huge distance. As you can see, I'm now in Kanchanaburi, been here a couple of days now.
Songkran, the Water Festival/New Years madness, is over (I think... it's hard to tell). Technically it finished a couple of days ago, but it was still going strong in Kanchanaburi yesterday. People everywhere throwing water, traffic at a standstill, groups of people riding on the back of pickup trucks with powder and water guns, buckets, hoses, motorbikes with watergun armed pillion passengers... you get the idea. Imagine an entire country involved in one big waterfight and that's Songkran. Madness.
One casualty of all this water has been my camera, which is slowly recovering life - whether it will ever be the same again is still to be seen. It's insured, so I guess if it turns out to be dead I can recover it...
Went to a beautiful Chinese temple yesterday, with the best views I've seen anywhere. Camera was dead, so no photos. But my camera is a little better today, so I may go back just to take photos :D
Chiang Mai was great, took it pretty easy. Dru's got a friend over here, name of Mint, who's family took us along to a river hangout which is apparently only frequented by Thai; Dru and I were the only farang (foreigners) around, which is always entertaining.
Also checked out the zoo, which is huge and hilly; it's a killer walking around in that kind of heat, and my gammy leg was being pretty damn gammy, mais c'est la vie.
Leaving Kanchanaburi tomorrow to see Dru off in Bangkok and pick up some essentials that are sitting in my luggage - namely my spare aviators (I knew I'd need a backup pair - lost the others somewhere in Luang Prabang) and the battery charger for my camera (another reason for a dearth of photos lately).
Following that I'm planning on heading south to check out the famed beaches. June, you're the one who's sold me on these beaches - where should I be going? Especially somewhere that is suwae (damned if I know how to spell that in English) and free from farang?
