OnTheRoad

So, still in Vang Vieng. Planning to chill out here for a few more days, not sure how many. Plans for the next few involve - today: do pretty much nothing. Sit in the shade by the river, drink fruit shakes, read a book. Tomorrow and the day after: kayaking in the river at some point in time, and we're considering hiring quad motorbikes and doing a little offroading. But... taking things very easy, so not going to finally decide on anything until the day we do it :)

I've been a little more energetic for the last couple of days. Thursday we went tubing down the river. This consists of floating in a tube (obviously enough) and getting out at the many bars along the river to a) consume beerlao and b) jump into the river off (at times) insanely high swings. We decided the highest was somewhere around the 8 metre mark, which I guess isn't to bad, but great fun anyway.

Yesterday we went for a little caving, after hiring a bike for the huge price of 20,000kip (for those that aren't down with the conversion rate, 20,000kip is almost exactly equal to $US1 which is kind of close to $NZ1.5). Biked out in the sun to the cave, about 6km, then clambered around in the cave. Pretty cool, there's a little buddha chilling out in there (look for the photos, they'll be up in a while), as well as some insanely danerous and unmarked dropoffs. Torches a necessity!
